Obituary of Michael A. Paolo
Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Michael A. Paolo passed away peacefully on June 20, 2023 at the age of 61. He was the loving father of Gina Lingham and Marcel Paolo. He was a very proud grandfather of his first granddaughter, Keira Lingham. Michael was born in Philadelphia on April 17, 1962 to parents Anthony and Gloria Paolo. Michael grew up in Voorhees and loved playing football. He loved playing sports both in and out of school and in the neighborhood. Anyone that knew Michael knew that he loved dancing. He got his love of dancing from his mom; when he was younger she would dance with all three kids in the living room. She taught him swing dancing at a very young age and his love for it only grew from there.
Michael was in the army for 9 years. He was stationed in Germany, Italy, and Oklahoma. He had a love of traveling and one of his favorite pastimes was going to the beach, more specifically the Wildwood beach. He would lounge on the sand for endless hours before going into the ocean and most likely losing his sunglasses. Michael was known for being forgetful (it wasn’t very often he wasn’t looking for something he lost - his keys, wallet, you name it) and wasn’t the best at being on time. He was funny and loved making jokes. He had a dark sense of humor, which unfortunately he passed down to his children. He was a loving grandfather who was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren. Most people talk about people having an “old soul”, Michael had a “young soul”. He was a kid at heart and that made it easy for him to be around his family and enjoy time with his granddaughter.
Michael is also survived by his longtime companion, Janet Morrongiello, who started out as his dance partner. Their partnership evolved into much more as their relationship blossomed into a love that endured over the past 17 years and will continue beyond his untimely passing.
Although never formally trained, Michael was very well respected and admired throughout the dance community for his unmistakable natural talent and love for salsa and latin hustle dancing. His smooth effortless style was truly unique and often surprised and delighted onlookers making him a recognizable fixture on the dance floor for over forty years.
May Michael continue to dance with the angels, now free from the physical pains that he bravely endured while on this earth, all for the love of dance. He will be sorely missed by his family, all the friends he has made over the years and especially by his loving partner who now grieves his absence, but will someday dance with him again.
