Gloria Owens Born January 9, 1937 passed away August 29, 2022. Gloria was 85 years young. Gloria was a devoted wife to Richard Owens loving mother of the late Allen Owens, survived by son Keith Owens and her daughter Carrie Ann Owens. Also grandmother to Jackie and Sammie Owens. Gloria was a trailblazer for women in the 1970's by being one of the first women trainer, owner and breeder for the New Jersey State Thoroughbred Racing Association. I remember how hard she had to study to pass her New Jersey State Trainers license. Her career statistics are 180 horses started and saddled. 15 1st place, 15 2nd place and 27 3rd place. The race tracks she won at are Penn National, Garden State Park, Atlantic City Race Course, Philadelphia Park, The Meadowlands Park, Monmouth Park, Delaware Park and Keystone Park and there might be a few more. Richard and Gloria had great success and loved running horses together they won many awards and trophies. Gloria's character was know to be strong, resilient, intelligent, fearless and bold. She also enjoy vacationing with her friend Jeanie and Jeanie's mother Nell. The places they visited were Sanibel Island, they traveled up the coast line to Arcadia Park in Maine, saw Niagara Falls and took many many day trips to Ocean City, NJ. Those trips held a special place in her heart. Gloria was loved by her family and friends for her incredible generous soul. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. Inurnment will be held Saturday, October 1, 2022 12pm at Berlin Cemetery.
