Obituary of Mabel "Bette" E. Abbott

Abbott; Mabel E. ( nee: Drew ) " Bette " Went home to be with the Lord on July 4, 2021 age 101years of Holyoke, Massachusetts, formerly of Haddon Twp., NJ. Bette was born October 6, 1919 to Mabel and John F. Drew, in Columbus, OH. After high school she worked for Campbell Soup Company and later as a civilian for the US Army psychiatric service. She married Lt. Col. George C. Abbott, Jr., who predeceased her in 1987. Bette and George settled in Haddon Twp., where they raised three children. Being a head of her time in the 1950's - 1970's, Bette worked as a news correspondent for the Philadelphia Inquirer, where she also wrote feature stories for the Inquirer and Philadelphia Bulletin. Her office was her Kitchen. Without Zoom or a computer, but armed with a police scanner and a telephone, she would get and report a story while serving afternoon snacks. Bette was predeceased by her parents, three siblings Edward, John, Jean and her daughter in law Dorothy ( Carlo ) Abbott. She is survived by three children, Marianne ( Bill ) Klink, of Sun City, AZ, George E. Abbott of Holyoke, MA, and BJ ( Mark ) Sanders, of Austin, TX., also survived by seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held September 13, 2021, 11am at New St. Mary's Cemetery, 515 West Browning Road, Bellmawr, NJ 08031.
