On Monday, August 10, 2020, Alice “Joy” Williams, loving wife, mother of three children, grandmother of six and great grandmother of 7, passed away at age 87. Joy was born on November 20, 1932 in Gibbsboro, NJ to Jesse and Martha (Peters) Sherwood. She received her high school diploma from Lower Camden County Regional High School in Lindenwold, NJ in 1950 and was later dedicated to the Athletic Hall of Fame for her sports accomplishments. From high school, Joy entered the US Air Force on February 18, 1952 and served until May 1, 1953. During her service time, Joy married Douglas Lee “Jake” Williams and they raised three children, Douglas Jr “Lee”, Tracy and Sherwood. Joy had a passion for painting. She also loved to garden, walk the lake and entertain guests. She was also an avid classic movie lover and a collector of Gone With the Wind memorabilia. She was known for her kind heart, generosity and compassionate spirit. Joy was preceded in death by her husband Douglas “Jake” Williams, father, Jesse, mother, Martha, son Douglas “Lee” Jr and granddaughter, Ashlee. She is survived by her brother John Sherwood, sister Martha “Dianne” Gregory, two children, Tracy Deterding and Sherwood Williams, 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, as well as many other family and friends. A private viewing will be held on Thursday, August 13th, 2020 at Knight Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to attend the graveside services to follow at Cedar Grove Cemetary in Gibbsboro at 10:45 a.m.
