Obituary of Marie E. Mackey

Marie E. Mackey November 17, 1941 - February 2, 2012 (nee Conley) Completed her life's work on February 2, 2012. Marie was a devoted wife to her husband, Gerald, sharing over 46 years together. Predeceased by parents Edward and Elma Conley. Caring daughter-in-law to Dorothy Volkert (nee O'Hanlon). Proud mother to her sons, David, Christopher, and his wife Kristalyn. Loving grandmother to Max and Austin. Loving sister to Susan A. Carlino. Dedicated over 30 years to the children of the Clementon Elementary School, including PTA. Enjoyed travelling, sharing time with her family and many friends, and feline companions Lucky and Strike. Marie was a graduate of Triton High School, class of 1960. She enjoyed travelling, puzzles, people, and her family. Marie worked at many places throughout the region, but began her career in Clementon. She retired after 27 years of service from the Clementon Elementary School, and still continued to volunteer wherever she was needed. She was the eyes and ears for busy teachers. Every child knew who Mrs. Mackey was and she took the time to know each and every child. Young and old alike would approach her wherever she went and call her by name. Every mother of the children in school knew that Marie would make sure they each had their hats and coats, boots, and gloves on, and ate their lunch. Marie formed lasting friendships with many people that she came in contact with in her profession. She was a great influence to her community. Her presence will be sorely missed. Family and friends are welcomed to attend the viewing, on Tuesday, February 7, 2012, from 7 P.M. to 9 P.M., at the Knight Funeral Home, 14 Rich Ave, Berlin, NJ 08009. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at 10:30am, at Knight Funeral Home where family and friends may call at 9:30am, followed by interment at the Berlin Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you honor Marie's life's work by making a donation to the Clementon Elementary School Library, 4 Audubon Avenue, Clementon, N.J. 08021.
