Obituary of Jon Hundertmark

Jon Hundertmark passed away on the morning of Sunday, February 9, 2025, allowing him to watch his beloved Eagles win the Super Bowl in the company of our Lord. Born on June 26, 1946 in Elizabeth, NJ, Jon was a 1964 graduate of Union High School (Union, NJ), and a 1969 graduate of Rutgers University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and an A.B. During the summers of 1964-68, he worked at Bristol Myers in Hillside, NJ. After graduating from Rutgers, he worked for DuPont in Newport, Delaware from 1969-73. He then joined the Department of Environmental Protection for Region 3 in their Philadelphia office as an Environmental Engineer, retiring in 2003 after 30 years of service. Jon was a devoted and long time member of the Holy Communion Lutheran Church in Berlin, NJ, serving at one time as President of the congregation. He was also a member of the choir; taught Sunday school; and worked regularly in their food pantry. He was an avid bridge player, playing in tournaments throughout the country and earning 100 master points. Even though he was not truly a hacker, he loved golf. Jon is survived by his sister, Joy Amelio (Ross) of Florida; and his nephews Glenn Hundertmark (Brynn) of Egg Harbor Twp, NJ; Kevin Hundertmark (Christina) of Medford, NJ; and Daniel Amelio of Florida. He was predeceased by his father Helmuth and his mother Alice (Simcox), both formerly of Hillside, Union, and Waretown, NJ; as well as his older brother Jay, from Egg Harbor Township. Memorial service will be held Monday, February 17, 2025 10:30am at the Holy Communion Lutheran Church, Rt. 73, Berlin NJ, where a visitation with the family will be 9:30am. Inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family. Please in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Holy Communion Lutheran Church Building Fund.
