Obituary of Dorothy E. Grimmie

Dorothy O'Brien Grimmie, 95, of Berlin, passed away peacefully, with her family in attendance on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at the Lutheran Home, Moorestown, New Jersey. She was born and raised in Philadelphia, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth O'Brien and moved with them to West Berlin, New Jersey while in her late teens. Her marriage to the late Arthur J. Grimmie, Sr. was a true partnership lasting 75 years until his death on October 11, 2013. The Grimmie family included three devoted children, daughter Barbara A. and husband David Setzer of Salisbury, N.C.; daughter Elaine J., and husband, Jerry Shell of Barrngton, N.J.; and son Arthur J., 2nd and his wife Sandi of Galloway, NJ and as well as ten cherished grandchildren and ten precious great grandchildren. Dorothy was a very active member of the Berlin community on both business and social levels. She was the accountant at the family-run business, Berlin Chrysler-Plymouth, and became active with the Marie Fleche Memorial Library in Berlin early in its history. She was treasurer of the Library Board of Trustees for many years and served for 32 years as a member of the Friends of the Marie Fleche Library. She was also an officer in the women's auxiliary for Edgewood Hospital now Virtua Hospital in Berlin N.J. An avid golfer, Dorothy was active in the golf association at Laurel Oaks and Medford Village country clubs, where her husband, an excellent golfer, also played. They played together often in tournament settings, especially the Night Riders of Laurel Oaks. Bridge was also a favorite pastime of Dorothy's; she was a member of multiple bridge clubs in and around Berlin. Memorial gifts may be made to the Marie Fleche Memorial Library, 49 South White Horse Pike, Berlin, NJ 08009. Knight Funeral Home of Berlin is in charge of arrangements. The viewing is scheduled for 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home; the funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima in Haddon Heights, NJ., with internment at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Berlin.
