Obituary of George L. Henry

GEORGE L. HENRY AGE 88 - BLUE ANCHOR George L. Henry, age 88 of Blue Anchor passed peacefully at home on Sunday, April 3, 2016. George is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Ann “Nancy” (nee Boyle) Henry. Brother of the late Ann Litzler. Loving father to Catherine Heilig (Frank), April Tronco (Stephen), Lance Henry and Lee Henry. Predeceased by sons Bruce Henry and George Henry, Jr. Loving Grandfather to Craig Henry (Laura), Heather Henry, Ryan Henry, Sharon Heilig, Rachel Heilig, Matthew Tronco, Rebecca Tronco, Gabrielle Henry and Cole Henry. Loving Great Grandfather to Landon Henry, Kayleigh Henry, Brianna Morris, Tatianna Morris, Bryce Henry, and Kaden Speller. Born in Everett, Mass., George was a resident of Blue Anchor for 60 years. In 1941, he became the youngest Eagle Scout ever in Massachusetts at age 14. He faithfully defended his country in the US Navy as a SFC serving in World War II aboard the USS Whitley. George received his engineering degree from Keystone College in 1949. He worked as a Material and Standards Engineer for 40 years from PRSL, PRR, Penn Central and Conrail, retiring in 1989. In 1965, George started Boys Scout Troop #192 in Blue Anchor and served as Scoutmaster for several decades. He was an avid ice hockey player and coach of many, and he loved the Flyers. He also loved to fish. George was a 60 year member of Grace Union United Methodist Church, Blue Anchor. Relatives and friends are invited to join the Henry family to remember, celebrate and pay tribute to George on Friday morning. Viewing will be between 11am - 12pm at Grace Union United Methodist Church, where a funeral service will follow. Interment will follow immediately at Greenwood Cemetery, Blue Anchor.
